Around Tucson

On January 21st we moved southwest of Tucson. We camped overnight at our second paid stop in three weeks at a very nice campground – think it was the J campground. On Tuesday morning we moved just down the road to BLM land and will be staying here until Jan 28th.

Monday we went to San Xavier del Bac Mission – see the attached pictures. It was very colorful but I liked the Mission we visited in Mexico a lot better – maybe because of its simplicity.

On Jan 23rd we drove to Tombstone and it is really a touristy place. Visited Boot Hill - see the attached pictures. Walked the main street but didn’t stay for the gunfight. We also scouted out places to stay next year.

Yesterday we went for a walk up the hill by the campground. It was very rocky and steep and we were sweating by the time we reached the top. Have to run the energy off Zack somehow and it doesn’t hurt us to have the exercise. I spent the afternoon in the trailer as the wind was blowing like mad and I wanted to do the Wetcanvas drawing of the week. Raymond was more adventurous and put up a windbreak so he could huddle outside. Still warm but very windy.

Will just vegetate until Monday and then on to Why.

20 Jan 08

Hi from the Tim Kortsen West Pinal Park (south of Phoenix)

We have been camping in this BLM campground for almost a week. Last Tuesday we had a notice left on our picnic table that campers were only to stay for 72 hours. We talked with others in the campground and one fellow (Michael) said they had been there a week already and no one said anything. He and his wife left after a ten-day stay. We will be moving on Monday – going to Tucson. Hopefully the camp host will leave us alone today.

Last Monday we got in touch with our neighbours from home – Don and Bev - who are visiting their son Stewart in Phoenix. They came out to the trailer last Monday for a visit and then we traveled to the place they are renting in Phoenix on Tuesday. We spent the day shopping and even went to the Olive Garden for lunch. Bev prepared a delicious supper of ribs and veggies and we stayed the night.

We both had showers this morning and then it was time to bath Molly. About half way through her bath we ran out of water. We will now have to go find some water for the trailer. Oh the joys of camping!
The weather has been fantastic. The desert is very cold at night – about 0°C. The afternoons have been very warm – at least 20°C. We have our shorts on all afternoon but back into long pants by 6pm

Hi from the road to Robson's Mining World Museum

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, RON

January 6, 2008

We are parked out in the desert just a short way from Robson’s Mining World Museum. It is supposed to be open to the public but the sign says it is closed. They are also supposed to have a Bed and Breakfast operation there, too. Will check again tomorrow morning to see if it is open. We seem to be hooked into internet way out in the desert but we don't have cel phone service. Go figure!

Have been doing some geocaching around this area. Yesterday we walked 3 miles round trip through a canyon up and down and over rocks leading to a warm pool of water that comes out of the rocks. It was quite a challenge and we sure were tired when we got back. We found the geocache but Raymond had to carry Zack for quite a ways cause he couldn't manoever over the rocks. Today we did two more geocaches and walked nearly another three miles. Again Zack had to be carried as there were so many cactus and the prickly parts got caught in his feet. Raymond took along the comb so the prickly things could be removed more easily from Zack's feet.

We are getting good reception with our Starchoice satellite. Watching the news so we keep up with events. Cathy is keeping up with her TV programs and we have some DVD's to keep us entertained.

We have survived our colds and feeling much better.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

December 31, 2007

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Greetings from the desert just south of Mesquite, Nevada. We have our first day of wind and it is 13°C but feels cold. We have had a good run since we left our home at 6:00am on December 26 heading to Arizona. So far we have made stops at Helena and south of Salt Lake. We de-winterized at St. George and filled up with water before traveling to where we are now. We are both fighting the colds that the Ternes’ gave us at Christmas (ha ha).Did some geocaching back in the hills today. Tomorrow we travel to Kingman and will camp there a couple of days. Hope the temperature improves to at least 20°C
